  • Ahead in November & December

Posted by Rebecca Olgierson on 11/28/2018

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving break. If your life is anything like mine, December is about to get crazy! So, this letter is going to have to suffice for December. Here are some PA activities we’d like to make sure are on your radar:

Parents’ Night Out this Saturday, Dec. 1
Plan a night out at Casey’s Bistro & Pub, on East 29th Ave., in Stapleton, featuring musical entertainment from Tim Barrier, David Marais and Ed Calvin. Stanley parents Jennie and Rob Dawe are hosting the event and donating a portion of the proceeds back to the Parent Association. I’d love to see you there!

Colorado Gives Day — Tuesday, December 4
Your gift to the Annual Fund goes farther on Colorado Gives Day, take advantage of matching funds by visiting Stanley’s Colorado Gives Day page.

Bricks and Brews Wednesday Night, December 5, 8 p.m.
Play some ball at the Stanley Gym, everyone is welcome! Questions? Please contact Dan Hyatt at hyatt.dan@gmail.com

Faculty & Staff Appreciation Holiday Cookie Party —

    December 20
Take part in the second annual Stanley tradition honoring all of our faculty and staff during the holidays! Help us show appreciation for all they do to support our children.

Again this year the Stanley Parent Association is sponsoring a Holiday Cookie Party for faculty and staff, and we are inviting families to donate two dozen cookies or treats to deliver to school on Thursday, December 20. Baked goods can be dropped off in the Pub anytime between 7:30-11 a.m. that day. Additionally for your convenience, volunteers will be waiting in the Quebec K-1-2 drop-off line to receive donations prior to the start of the school day.

From 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. faculty and staff will be invited to the pub for a beautiful cookie buffet where they can fill a treat box to take home and enjoy with their families. Our goal is to send each person home with at least a dozen treats so we need lots of baking help!

Questions? Please contact Wendy Thorpe at thorpe.wendy@gmail.com

And finally, don’t forget to stop by the Stanley Store in the lobby on Friday 11/30, Friday 12/7, and in the gym during the holiday concert. We have fabulous winter merchandise perfect for everyone on your list. And, if you like what you see, please consider volunteering for the store in 2019. We have a terrific team in place, but we’re in need of new volunteers to transition the store into 2019. I’ll be sending out an official call for help in January.

That’s all I have on my list. As we turn to the last page on the calendar, I’d like to personally thank all for all your contributions to the Stanley community.

Wishing you and yours a lovely holiday season and a very Happy New Year.

    Best,

    Rebecca Olgeirson

  • The Parent Association Calendar Begins

Posted by Rebecca Olgeirson on 9/19/2018

I hope September finds you well and your family in a back-to-school routine.

One of my goals as your Parent Association president this year is direct monthly communication from the PA to your inbox. We had a great turnout at our first general meeting last Friday, but I understand many parents simply can’t make our meetings. (And that’s OK.) I hope that between the school communications, its new website, the Stanley British Primary app, and this email that everyone will feel connected to our SBPS community.

PA Meeting As I mentioned at our meeting, the PA includes all parents and we provide the “icing on the cake” for the Stanley school year. We are able to do that through volunteer efforts, social events, and fundraising. By now our grocery card program has officially kicked off and you should’ve received detailed info at Back-to-School night. If you missed picking up a card or need additional cards (or explanation), please stop by the Stanley Store this Friday between 8-8:45, where I will be helping out. Or you can contact our amazing fundraising chair, Emily Schlueter,emily@schlueter.net.

    Upcoming September PA Events:

    • This Friday September 21: K12 Sock Hop 6 -7:30 p.m. in the ballroom.
Come ready to dance at this fun, family event — poodle skirts optional! Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, especially Jodie Royer for pulling this together.

    • Thursday September 27: Bike & Carpool to School Day
This is an opportunity to explore different and more environmentally friendly ways to get to school, to meet neighbors with whom your kids can bike and you can carpool, to learn about new and safe bike routes to Stanley.
We are planning group rides from the following neighborhoods: Congress Park, Hilltop/Crestmoor, Mayfair, north Lowry, S & SE Lowry, E Colfax, N & S Stapleton, possibly Wash Park. If yours is not listed and you are interested, please let us know.
We are also recruiting neighborhood leaders. The role of a leader is to reach out to neighbors, designate a meeting time and location (can be your house), design a safe route to school, and help guide the ride. We can help with all of that. For more information, please contact Adam Feerst at arfeerst@gmail.com, phone/text 303-870-0487.

Finally, an idea suggested at our first PA meeting was brainstorming ways to connect and support the needs of the local community beyond our school. I welcome your thoughts on this topic as we explore further. Feel free to email me directly at rebecca@rebeccamedia.com.

Thanks for your involvement in our kids’ school. Your time is valued and very much appreciated.

See you in the carpool line!

  • Fall Bike & Carpool to School day: Thursday, Sept. 27

Posted by Adam Feerst on behalf of Sustainability Committee on 9/13/2018

This is an opportunity to explore different and more environmentally friendly ways to get to school, to meet (perhaps new) neighbors with whom your kids can bike and you can carpool, to learn about new and safe bike routes to Stanley, and just to meet new Stanley neighbors. We've done this in the spring, but we wanted to try this early in the school year too.

Bike to school We are planning group rides from the following neighborhoods: Congress Park, Hilltop/Crestmoor, Mayfair, north Lowry, S & SE Lowry, E Colfax, N & S Stapleton, possibly Wash Park. If yours is not listed and you are interested in one, please let us know.

We are also recruiting neighborhood leaders. The role of a leader is to reach out to neighbors, designate a meeting time and location (can be your house), design a safe route to school, and help guide the ride. We can help with all of that. If you are already part of a regular biking group or ride alone, please let us know so we can incorporate that into the rides that day.

If you are interested or want to learn more, please contact Adam Feerst at arfeerst@gmail.com, phone/text 303-870-0487.
