Dance begins with discovery.
At Stanley, dance is a place to move, wonder, take creative risks and discover another way to express yourself.
From Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade, students build coordination, body awareness and technique while exploring rhythm, improvisation, choreography and performance. As they grow, they make increasingly purposeful choices about how movement can communicate an idea.

Dance begins through creative movement, music and play. Students explore space, shape, speed, rhythm and energy while building body awareness and confidence.

Turn movement into meaning.
Students expand their movement vocabulary through dance styles and traditions while beginning to combine movements into phrases. Improvisation and choreography invite them to make choices and use movement to express ideas, images and feelings.

Choreograph with intention.
Students work with increasingly sophisticated movement phrases and choreographic structures while exploring styles including ballet, tap, jazz, modern dance, musical theater and street dance.
They also consider the cultural and historical contexts of dance and take greater ownership of creating, revising and performing their own work.

Beyond the Dance Studio
Movement connects ideas.
Dance often intersects with other learning at Stanley. Students might investigate the skeletal system through movement, connect dance traditions with history and culture, respond to music or use choreography to tell a story.
Dance becomes another way to investigate, interpret and communicate what students understand.

Meet the Teacher
Julie Wolfrum
Pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade Dance
Julie creates a joyful, positive environment where students are encouraged to explore movement and express themselves with confidence.
A trained dance professional, Julie has performed around the country and taught students from Kindergarten through college in styles including hip hop, jazz, ballet and modern dance. She also helps bring Stanley's 5th grade musical to the stage.
